PLATEAU STATE MINISTRY OF LANDS, SURVEY AND TOWN PLANNING UNDER BARR. PETER NYAM GAI - a performing commissioner.

The name, Hon. Barrister Peter Nyam Gai rings bell in the nooks and crannies of Plateau, presently a nightmare to land racketeers specialised in fraudulent, organized, and often illegal acquisition, hoarding, or selling of land, typically involving public officials using their authority to secure plots for high-profit resale in the past.

A brief scorecard of this legal luminary who is doing well in the Barr. Caleb Mutfwang  administration as the Plateau state commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning. Indeed, "He who leads well is followed even in the dark.” This man is Barrister Peter Nyam Gai.

The Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning under Barr. Gai, has recorded several recent achievements, especially under ongoing reforms in Plateau State.

1. Massive increase in revenue generation
The ministry has significantly boosted internally generated revenue.
It generated about ₦500 million by August 2024, up from about ₦173 million in 2023.
By 2025, the internally generated revenue reportedly rose further to around ₦1.3b within eight months.
This shows stronger efficiency and improved financial contribution to the state.

2. Faster and improved land title processing. Processing of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) has improved drastically.
What used to take years now takes about 2–3 months.
Over 2,200 certificates were issued within a year—far higher than previous administrations.

3. Digital transformation (GIS / PLAGIS)
Introduction and strengthening of the Plateau Geographic Information System (PLAGIS).
This has:
Digitized land records
Improved transparency
Reduced corruption and delays
It also supports mapping, surveying, and spatial data management.

4. Reforms in land administration
Streamlining of processes for:
Land allocation
Title registration
Survey approvals.
These reforms restored public trust and efficiency in the ministry.

5. Infrastructure and office upgrades
Renovation and refurbishment of ministry facilities.
Provision of:
Office furniture
Water supply
Improved working environment
Reactivation of key offices and departments. A well furnished board room that can host board meetings of high standard.

6. Improved service delivery
Better and faster services in:
Surveying and mapping
Urban planning approvals
Land documentation
Increased awareness and compliance with land regulations.

7. Contribution to urban planning and development
Supports government with:
Physical development plans
Layout design (residential, commercial, industrial)
Land policy advice
Plays a key role in urban development and infrastructure planning in the state.

In simple terms, the ministry’s biggest achievements recently are:
Higher revenue
Faster land title processing
Digital transformation (GIS)
Better infrastructure and service delivery.

No doubt this is a performing commissioner appointed by His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang   The Executive Governor of Plateau.
