GOVERNOR MUTFWANG BIDS FAREWELL TO 1,134 HAJJ PILGRIMS, URGES EXEMPLARY CONDUCT
…As intending pilgrims pledge unreserved support to the Governor
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally bid farewell to 1,134 intending Muslim pilgrims from the state ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He charged them to uphold discipline and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Plateau State and Nigeria.
The farewell ceremony, held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the new office premises of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board along Liberty Boulevard Road, Jos, brought together government officials, religious leaders, and families of the pilgrims preparing for the sacred journey.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang prayed for the safety and success of the pilgrims, committing them into the hands of Almighty God.
“We entrust you to the protection of God Almighty, that He will guide you safely to your destination and bring you back in peace, shielding you from every harm that may arise during your journey,” the Governor said.
He urged the pilgrims to approach the exercise with utmost devotion and return home spiritually renewed. The Governor emphasized that their conduct in the Holy Land should reflect the core values of Plateau State, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence.
He also cautioned those he described as “merchants of crisis” to desist from actions capable of undermining the state’s development.
The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hon. Alhaji Daiyabu Dauda, disclosed that the 1,134 pilgrims comprise 570 sponsored by the state government and 564 who are self-sponsored.
Dauda commended Governor Mutfwang for his consistent support to the Board and pilgrims, highlighting key interventions such as the provision of a permanent office after over four decades, logistical support through vehicles, and the approval of free ihram garments and hijabs for all pilgrims.
He also recalled the Governor’s timely intervention during the 2025 Hajj, when additional meals were approved for pilgrims during a challenging period, describing the gesture as both compassionate and reassuring.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of the Amirul Hajj for the 2026 exercise, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, Dauda noted that his experience and leadership capacity would ensure a smooth and successful pilgrimage.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Amirul Hajj 2026, urged the pilgrims to remain law-abiding, prayerful, and cooperative throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia. He stressed that their behavior would reflect the image of Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
He further noted that Governor Mutfwang has demonstrated remarkable love, compassion, and empathy toward the Muslim community, and therefore deserves their continued support and commitment. He encouraged the community to reciprocate this goodwill at the appropriate time.
The event marks a significant milestone in the state’s preparations for the annual pilgrimage, as the “Time is Now” administration continues to promote religious harmony and enhance the welfare of all citizens.
