RIYOM LGA FIRST LADY, DEBORAH SATI SHUWA, BOOSTS PLAYERS’ MORALE AT GOVERNOR’S CUP
By Jimmy Pam Jerry
The First Lady of Riyom Local Government Area, Mrs. Deborah Sati Shuwa, has continued to demonstrate remarkable support for grassroots football and youth development by providing food and refreshments to players representing Riyom LGA in the ongoing 2026 Plateau State Governor’s Cup.
In what has become her regular gesture of encouragement, Mrs. Shuwa has consistently stood behind the team, providing both material and moral support as the young footballers compete for honours in the prestigious state wide tournament.
Her commitment to the players is not new. During the 2025 Governor’s Cup, Mrs. Deborah Shuwa was visibly present at Riyom LGA’s matches, where she provided food and drinks for the players as a modest but meaningful gesture of appreciation for their commitment, discipline and representation of the local government. Her continued presence has once again added a strong motivational dimension to Riyom’s campaign in the 2026 edition of the competition.
At the Ladura-Du Mini Stadium, Riyom LGA secured an impressive 2–1 victory over Mangu LGA, recording their second consecutive win and significantly strengthening their position in the group. The result has boosted Riyom’s prospects of advancing to the quarter final stage, as the team continues its push for a place in the knockout rounds.
Mrs. Deborah Sati Shuwa was fully on ground to cheer the players and technical team, offering words of encouragement and ensuring that the footballers were well catered for. She also provided food for the players, describing the gesture as her own little contribution towards motivating the youths and appreciating their efforts in representing Riyom LGA.
Beyond the football pitch, the First Lady used the opportunity to engage the young players as a mother and role model. She urged them to remain disciplined, responsible and focused, reminding them of their responsibilities to their families and communities.
She particularly advised the youths to shun drug abuse, criminality and other social vices, stressing the importance of education, hard work, self discipline and positive engagement as pathways to a productive future.
Mrs. Shuwa further encouraged the players to remain committed to their dreams and make the most of opportunities provided through sports, noting that football can serve as a powerful platform for youth empowerment, talent discovery, employment and community development.
She also called on the youths to support the development-oriented agenda of the administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, particularly its efforts to promote peace, youth empowerment, grassroots development and inclusive opportunities across Plateau State.
Her gesture underscores the important role of sports in bringing communities together, discovering young talents and promoting unity, discipline and healthy competition among the people of Plateau State.
With two victories already secured, the Riyom LGA team will now look to maintain its momentum, strengthen its tactical performance and secure qualification for the knockout stage of the 2026 Governor’s Cup.
The Plateau State Football Association Chairman, Hon. Dr. Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, appreciates the first lady's consistent support to the Riyom LGA team, which translates to supporting grassroots football and youths development in the state. He commend Hon. Mrs Deborah Sati Shuwa for her motherly love to the youth. In his words "Only a true mother will cook food consistently and take it to the youths playing football, this alone gives the youths hope in tomorrow".
