PLATEAU FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH RECORDS REMARKABLE IMPACT IN SHENDAM, MANGU AS GRATEFUL PARENTS NAME NEWBORN BABY CALEB IN HONOUR OF GOVERNOR MUTFWANG
The Day Two of the Free Medical Outreach sponsored by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., has recorded a remarkable impact in Shendam and Mangu Local Government Areas, bringing relief, renewed hope and access to essential healthcare services to residents, particularly indigent families, women, children and the elderly.
The simultaneous medical outreach, organised across the two locations, attracted residents from the Southern Senatorial District to the General Hospital, Shendam, while beneficiaries from the Central Senatorial District received medical attention at the General Hospital, Mangu.
The arrangement brought essential healthcare services closer to the people, reducing the burden of travel and improving access for residents in need of medical attention.
At both hospitals, teams of medical professionals attended to patients with various health conditions, providing consultations, treatment and specialised interventions. The exercise also featured surgical procedures, including Caesarean Sections (CS), for women who required them, offering vital medical support to expectant mothers and their families.
One of the most touching moments of the outreach was the decision by parents of a baby delivered at the General Hospital, Shendam, to name their newborn Caleb, in honour of Governor Mutfwang. The gesture, born out of joy and gratitude, offered a poignant expression of appreciation for the medical intervention and the opportunity it provided for families to access essential healthcare services.
Across both facilities, beneficiaries, particularly women, children and elderly residents, expressed satisfaction with the organisation and delivery of the outreach. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel worked in a coordinated manner to attend to the large number of residents who turned out to benefit from the exercise.
The atmosphere at the two hospitals reflected relief, gratitude and renewed confidence among beneficiaries, many of whom regard access to medical care as a significant challenge, especially when the cost of treatment places additional pressure on already vulnerable households.
Beyond the immediate medical interventions, the outreach underscores the importance of people-centred healthcare delivery and the need to ensure that financial constraints do not deny citizens access to timely and appropriate medical attention. By bringing medical professionals and essential services closer to communities, the initiative provides practical support to families while reinforcing the importance of compassion, dignity and inclusive public service.
For the parents who named their newborn Caleb, and for the many residents receiving treatment in Shendam and Mangu, the outreach represents more than a medical exercise. It is an opportunity for relief, renewed hope and the reassurance that their health and wellbeing remain important.
As the free medical outreach continues, its activities in the two local government areas highlight the value of accessible healthcare interventions, particularly for underserved communities, and the importance of sustained efforts to improve the wellbeing of citizens across Plateau State.
The gesture of naming the newborn after the Governor stands as a memorable highlight of the outreach, while the services delivered at Shendam and Mangu reflect the profound human value of making healthcare accessible to those who need it most.
