COMMISSIONER EPHRAIM USMAN GAR LEADS ASSESSMENT TOUR TO MIKANG, PRAISES COUNCIL FOR PROGRESS AND CONTINUITY

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ephraim Usman Gar, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jonathan Dabo, top management staff of the ministry and other officials, has led a delegation on an assessment tour to Mikang Local Government Area.

The visit is part of the ongoing statewide inspection of the 17 local government areas in Plateau State. The tour is aimed at monitoring grassroots development, ensuring transparency, and aligning local government projects with the "The Time is Now" governance vision of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
On arrival in Mikang, Hon. Gar and his team paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, HRH Puntel Donald, the Long Tehl and Chairman of the Mikang Traditional Council, to seek royal blessings and strengthen partnership with traditional institutions.

At the Local Government Secretariat in Tunkus, the Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Benard Soepding Alkali, presented his administration's achievements. He listed the construction of the Piapung Police Station, the remodeling of the Local Government Secretariat, and the installation of 450 solar streetlights across Tunkus, Garkawa and Koenoem districts to improve security.

He said the council also constructed six box culverts in Piapung and Garkawa, built new healthcare clinics in Piapung, Tunkus and Garkawa, built staff quarters and a perimeter fence at PHC Lifidi, and built three-classroom blocks in four communities. He added that his administration has furnished and revived the historic Kangmi Resort in Tunkus for commercial use.

Dr. Alkali maintained that his administration has also focused on completing inherited projects and paying debts owed to contractors by previous administrations to ensure continuity and responsible use of public funds.

After inspecting the projects and meeting with stakeholders at the Legislative Chambers, Hon. Gar expressed satisfaction with the leadership of Dr. Alkali, urging him to do more.

He commended the chairman for paying past liabilities and completing inherited projects like the Kangmi Resort instead of abandoning them, saying it shows that public funds are not being wasted.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said it will continue its statewide tour to evaluate projects and ensure effective service delivery across Plateau State.
