CHIEF EPHRAIM USMAN TAKES STATEWIDE ASSESSMENT TOUR TO LANGTANG NORTH

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Plateau State, Chief Ephraim Usman, has continued his statewide assessment tour with a visit to Langtang North Local Government Area, where he led a delegation from the Ministry on a project inspection and commissioning tour.

The tour, which is part of the Ministry's statewide evaluation of projects executed by Local Government Councils, saw the Commissioner assess key infrastructure and development initiatives executed by the administration of the Executive Chairman of Langtang North, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, in line with the grassroots development agenda of the Governor Mutfwang-led administration.

Among the projects inspected was the solar street light installation in Kuffen and surrounding areas. Over 200 solar panels have so far been installed out of a target of about 600 under the contract. The project has already improved night-time security, reduced motorcycle theft and petty crimes, extended business hours and illuminated major commercial centres in the town.

The team also inspected the remodelled administrative suite within the Local Government Secretariat. The facility now houses the offices of the Vice Chairperson, the Director of Personnel Management, the Director of Finance and Supply and security personnel. According to Hon. Tyem, the centralization was necessary to improve workflow and operational efficiency as the offices were previously scattered and lacked basic working tools.

Other facilities inspected include the ongoing construction of an office block for Supervisory Councillors who serve as cabinet members at the local level, to provide them with a conducive working environment. The delegation equally inspected the construction of a new main gate for the secretariat, which has been moved further back from the main road for safety and proper access, with plans to clear roadside shops in front of the complex to improve visibility and aesthetics.

At the main market in Zamko, the team assessed the ongoing perimeter fencing project designed to secure council land, safely contain the cattle market and segment the market into distinct sections for traders dealing in clothing, foodstuffs and other goods, thereby improving organization and safety.

The highpoint of the visit was the commissioning of the newly completed District Office, a project Hon. Tyem described as fulfilling, having initiated it during his tenure in the State House of Assembly.

Speaking during the tour, Hon. Pirfa Tyem said interventions under him were driven by the need for efficiency, security and better service delivery, noting that the projects are already transforming the area.

On his part, Chief Ephraim Usman expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the enthusiasm shown by traders and community members. He added that he was confident that His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, would be pleased with the work done so far and called on the people of Langtang North to continue supporting their elected local government leadership as the statewide tour continues.
