PUBLIC NOTICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM JMDB
This is to Notify the general public that, the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) , pursuant to its statutory responsibility for the regulation of physical development, outdoor advertising and the orderly use of public spaces within its jurisdiction, hereby notifies the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Plateau State Office, and all relevant stakeholders of the enforcement of regulations governing political campaign advertisements during the 2026–2027 election campaign period.
Consiquently, the Board wishes to reiterate that, in line with the Plateau State Executive Order No. 003 of 2024 for the Control of Buildings and Vehicular Traffic in Plateau State, the posting or pasting of posters on public infrastructure is prohibited. Accordingly, political posters, banners and other campaign materials shall not be pasted, mounted or displayed on public buildings, bridges, road infrastructure, utility poles, traffic structures, street furniture, trees or other unauthorised locations.
Furthermore, no political poster, banner, billboard, signage, branded structure or other outdoor campaign advertising medium shall be erected, installed or displayed without prior approval and authorisation from the appropriate regulatory authority.
All proposed advertising locations shall be duly assessed and approved, and the applicable permit obtained, before any campaign material is deployed. For the avoidance of doubt:Unauthorised posting or mounting of political posters and banners on public infrastructure is strictly prohibited. Political parties, candidates, campaign organisations, advertising practitioners and individuals must obtain prior approval before erecting or displaying outdoor campaign materials.Only approved and allocated advertising locations may be used for political campaign advertisements, including existing designated and approved locations within the metropolis that are available for such use.
Violations shall attract enforcement action and applicable sanctions in accordance with Executive Order No. 003 of 2024 and other relevant laws and regulations. The Executive Order specifically provides a ₦500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) penalty for posting posters on public infrastructure.The Board considers strict compliance essential to preserving the aesthetics of the city, protecting public infrastructure, ensuring public safety and maintaining an orderly and equitable campaign environment for all political parties and candidates.JMDB therefore solicits the cooperation of ARCON, registered political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners and campaign organisations in sensitising their members, agents and affiliates and ensuring full compliance throughout the campaign period.
The Board will continue to monitor political outdoor advertising activities within its jurisdiction and take appropriate enforcement action against violators.
