PLATEAU FOOTBALL REFEREES SPICED UP PETER YAKUBU AZI’S WEDDING

The wedding ceremony of Peter Yakubu Azi, an active football referee, and his beloved bride, Mercy, was transformed into a colourful and memorable celebration as members of the Plateau State football refereeing family turned out in impressive numbers to celebrate with their colleague.

The beautiful wedding ceremony, which took place at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Furaka, Jos North, Plateau State, brought together active and retired football referees, assessors, friends and well-wishers who came to honour the newlyweds and demonstrate the strong bond of camaraderie that exists within the refereeing fraternity.

Peter Yakubu Azi, an active football referee, had only recently among Plateau State contingents at the just concluded NFRA National Fitness Test Exercise in Kano, making the celebration particularly significant for his colleagues, who seized the opportunity to honour him not only as a referee but also as a brother and friend.

A Grand Display of Refereeing Family Spirit

From the church service to the reception, the presence of the Plateau football referees added remarkable colour, and excitement to the occasion. Their coordinated presence, joyful disposition, and goodwill turned the wedding into an event that attracted attention and reflected the exceptional relationship among referees beyond the football pitch.

Leading the delegation at the society level was Jimmy Pam Jerry, Secretary of the Jos North Football Referees Society, who served as the Chairman of the occasion.

In his opening remarks, Jimmy Pam Jerry congratulated the couple and described marriage as a significant journey that requires commitment, patience, understanding and mutual respect. He emphasised that while football referees are trained to enforce the laws of the game with fairness and discipline on the pitch, marriage equally requires both partners to understand their responsibilities, communicate effectively and work together to build a peaceful home.

Jimmy Pam Jerry urged the newlyweds to always make love, respect and forgiveness the foundation of their marriage, while encouraging them to remain supportive of one another through the different phases of life.

He further expressed appreciation to the refereeing community for demonstrating once again that the bond among colleagues extends beyond appointments, matches and fitness exercises.

In his closing remarks, Jimmy Pam Jerry thanked everyone who attended the wedding and contributed in one way or another to its success. He particularly commended the active and retired referees for putting aside their schedules to celebrate with their colleague.

He described the turnout as a demonstration of unity, solidarity and genuine brotherhood, stressing that the presence of colleagues at such an important moment in the life of one of their own is a testimony to the strength of the refereeing family.

Coach Eunice Amallam, Chairperson of the Jos North Referee's Society also showered encominums at the wedding ceremony.

The ceremony also attracted respected retired referees, including Mommy Victory Cuktu, Rev. Dung Jare and Nurse Amos Agwom, among other distinguished members of the refereeing family.

Their presence provided a beautiful connection between generations of referees, with former officials standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the current generation to celebrate the new chapter in Peter and Mercy's lives.

The active referees came out in their numbers, creating a strong and unmistakable presence at both the church ceremony and reception. Their enthusiasm, cheerful interactions and goodwill added vibrancy to the celebration.

Assessor Datom Yohanna, representing the council, was also present to lend his support and celebrate with the couple.

The remarkable turnout demonstrated that the Plateau refereeing community is not only united by the beautiful game and the Laws of the Game, but is also bound by friendship, mutual respect and a shared sense of belonging.

A Colourful Reception at Science Day Secondary Jos North, Plateau State, provided another spectacular dimension to the celebration.
