MUTFWANG CALLS FOR UNITY, PRAYER, JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION AS PLATEAU MARKS NIGERIA’S 66TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, dialogue, forgiveness, justice and reconciliation as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Governor Mutfwang made the call through his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, who represented him at an interdenominational church service held at Nasarawa Baptist Church, Dutse Uku, Jos, on Sunday.

The service, organised to commemorate Nigeria’s 66 years of independence, was held under the theme, “Nigeria, 66 Years After,” and brought together government officials, Christian leaders, clergymen, traditional and community leaders, as well as worshippers from different backgrounds.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Ngo Piyo emphasised the importance of unity, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence in strengthening the country’s democracy and advancing national development.

Ngo Piyo noted that while Nigeria has made significant progress since gaining independence, the nation still faces challenges that require collective responsibility, sincere dialogue and a renewed commitment to justice and peace.
Governor Mutfwang urged Nigerians to look beyond their ethnic, religious, political and regional differences and recognise the shared responsibility of building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

The Governor stressed that forgiveness and reconciliation remain important instruments for healing wounds, rebuilding trust and promoting peaceful coexistence, particularly in communities that have experienced conflict and divisions.

He also called on citizens to continue praying for the peace, stability and prosperity of Nigeria, noting that the nation’s challenges require not only effective leadership but also the prayers, support and active participation of citizens.
He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the ideals upon which the country was founded, while urging leaders at all levels to continue working towards improved security, economic opportunities, quality education, accessible healthcare and sustainable development.

On Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening peace and unity across the state, while promoting development that benefits citizens irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political backgrounds.
He urged the people of Plateau to continue supporting peaceful initiatives and resist actions capable of undermining the hard-earned peace in their communities.
The interdenominational service featured prayers, worship, Scripture readings and messages centred on the peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria and Plateau State.
The gathering further provided an opportunity for citizens and Christian leaders to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence and renew their commitment to a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.
As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, the service ended with prayers for the nation’s leaders, security agencies, citizens and communities, with renewed calls for peace, justice, reconciliation and national unity.
