‎GOVERNOR MUTFWANG CALLS FOR UNITY AS BASHAR BEGINS NEW CHAPTER OF PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang Esq, has called on the people of Bashar Chiefdom in Wase Local Government Area, to put the disagreements surrounding the traditional leadership of the chiefdom behind them and unite for peace, stability and development.

‎The Governor made the call when the newly reinstated Reckna of Bashar, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, led a delegation of traditional leaders, political stakeholders and illustrious sons and daughters of the chiefdom on a courtesy visit to the New Government House, Little Rayfield,
Jos.
‎
‎Mutfwang described the resolution of the traditional leadership crisis as an opportunity for a new beginning, stressing that the prolonged dispute was allowed to run its course because government was determined to achieve a solution that would produce a “win-win situation” for the people of Bashar.
‎
‎The Governor said the restoration of the traditional institution should not be interpreted as a victory for one faction over another, but as an opportunity to rebuild trust and forge a common future.
‎
‎According to him, those who supported the Reckna and those who opposed his leadership remain members of the same community and must therefore be brought together under a traditional institution that accommodates everyone.
‎
‎“Bashar is for all of you, and we must be seen to be moving together,” the Governor said, urging those who remained aggrieved by the outcome of the dispute to “shed their sword” and become promoters of peace, brotherliness and togetherness.
‎
‎Mutfwang further charged the traditional ruler to sustain the spirit of reconciliation demonstrated in his address, urging him to extend his hands to everyone irrespective of their position during the leadership crisis. He maintained that responsible leadership must be about carrying others along and using positions of responsibility as channels of blessing to society.
‎
‎The Governor assured the Bashar delegation that the protection of lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of his administration, adding that he had held a State Security Council meeting the previous day where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) gave assurances that the military was closely monitoring developments in Wase.
‎
‎On education, the Governor acknowledged the shortage of teachers in rural communities as a statewide challenge and disclosed that government was working on measures to address the problem. 

He said consideration was being given to additional incentives for teachers posted to rural areas to encourage them to remain in their places of assignment while government would follow up on the Jarmay Bridge project. 
‎
‎Earlier, the Reckna of Bashar, HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, commended Governor Mutfwang for his courage, patience and commitment to fairness and due process in resolving the traditional leadership crisis.
‎
‎The traditional ruler described his reinstatement as “no victor, no vanquished,” drawing the Governor's attention to the worsening security situation in parts of Bashar, expressing concern over reported killings, cattle rustling and kidnappings.

 He appealed for greater coordination of any peace initiative involving security agencies and communities directly affected by the crisis.He also appealed for the deployment of qualified teachers to secondary schools in Bashar.

‎The traditional ruler appreciated the Governor's intervention in the award of the Jarmay Bridge contract and appealed for further action to ensure its speedy completion, noting its importance to transportation, agriculture, access to markets, schools and healthcare.
‎
‎He equally solicited government support for the construction of the long-proposed road linking Bashar through Jermay to Karim Lamido in Taraba State, describing the route as strategically important to trade, agriculture and economic integration between Plateau and Taraba.
