ARMY APPROVES NEW MILITARY FORMATIONS TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY SECURITY ACROSS PLATEAU STATE

The security drive of the Plateau State Government has received a major boost following the approval of new military formations aimed at strengthening security and improving the protection of communities across the state.

The development followed sustained engagements by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang with security stakeholders in Abuja and other locations, as the state intensifies efforts to address insecurity and restore lasting peace in affected communities.

According to a statement issued by the Plateau State Government House in Jos, the Chief of Army Staff has approved the establishment of one Battalion in Riyom, one Battalion in Mangu, a Garrison in Wase, and a Brigade in Langtang.

The government said the new formations are expected to enhance the military's operational capacity and improve the response to security threats across Plateau State.

The deployment is particularly expected to strengthen the protection of communities that have experienced attacks and other security challenges, while improving the military's ability to respond swiftly to distress calls.

To facilitate the immediate establishment of the formations, the Mutfwang administration has constituted a committee to identify suitable temporary structures in the affected areas for the accommodation of troops pending the construction of permanent facilities.

The committee is expected to work closely with the respective local government chairmen and community leaders in Riyom, Mangu, Wase and Langtang to ensure that the necessary arrangements and support are provided for the military formations.

The Plateau State Government attributed the latest development to what it described as Governor Mutfwang's sustained advocacy and strategic engagements with security authorities.

The statement specifically referenced the governor's numerous trips to Abuja, Lagos, other parts of Nigeria and abroad since assuming office, noting that the engagements have remained focused on attracting greater security attention and support for the state.

According to the government, the governor's consistent advocacy, strategic consultations and commitment to peace have contributed to the decision by the military high command to increase its presence across Plateau.

The statement further praised Governor Mutfwang's efforts, saying: “God Almighty has crowned the efforts and wisdom of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang with these laudable security achievements.”

Security observers believe the establishment of the new formations could have a significant impact on security operations in the state.

The Brigade in Langtang, Battalions in Riyom and Mangu, and Garrison in Wase are expected to reduce the distance troops must cover when responding to emergencies and strengthen military operations around highways, farmlands and border communities.

The increased military presence is also expected to reassure residents, farmers and traders who have been affected by insecurity, particularly as communities prepare for increased agricultural activities during the farming season.

For the Plateau State Government, improved security remains central to its development agenda, with Governor Mutfwang repeatedly stressing that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government and a necessary foundation for economic growth.

With the approval of the additional military formations, the state government expressed optimism that security operations will become more effective and that Plateau State will experience improved peace, stability and confidence among residents in the months ahead.

The new deployments therefore mark another significant step in the state's ongoing efforts to strengthen its security architecture and create a safer environment for residents, businesses and agricultural activities across Plateau.
