PLATEAU ASSEMBLY MINORITY LEADER DENIES SPONSORSHIP OF LIFETIME PENSION BILL FOR PLATEAU LAWMAKERS

Rt. Hon. Dewan K. Gabriel, Minority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has strongly distanced himself from a controversial proposed bill seeking lifetime pensions for principal officers and members of the Assembly.

In a public disclaimer issued on Wednesday, Hon. Gabriel stated unequivocally that he is neither a sponsor nor a supporter of the bill.

He emphasized that his name was included as a co-sponsor without his knowledge, consent, or authorization.

The bill was presented on Tuesday, July 7, by a colleague in the House. To his surprise, Gabriel’s name appeared on the list of co-sponsors.

“I wish to categorically state that I neither gave my approval for my name to be included nor associated myself with the bill in any way,” he declared.

Gabriel reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of Plateau State, transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

He said he remains dedicated to sponsoring and supporting only legislative initiatives that directly improve the lives of residents.

“My commitment has always been to the welfare of the people of Plateau State, transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of public resources,” the Minority Leader added.

He urged the public to disregard any information linking him to the proposed bill, describing it as inconsistent with his legislative priorities.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official comment from the leadership of the Plateau State House of Assembly or other sponsors on the matter.

Hon. Dewan  Gabriel  once served as Speaker of the state assembly and currently  the Minority Leader in the 10th Plateau State House of Assembly
