OVERNOR MUTFWANG COMMISSIONS MADO WATER PROJECT, TO END DECADES OF WATER SCARCITY IN TUDUN WADA COMMUNITY
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has commissioned the Mado- Tudun Wada Mini Solar Powered Water Scheme in Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area.
This marks a major impact in the administration's commitment to providing essential infrastructure and improving the quality of life of citizens.
The project brings to an end decades of dependence on unsafe water sources by residents of Mado and surrounding communities, many of whom had endured years of severe water scarcity, where families particularly women and children were forced to travel long distances, often in the early hours of the morning, to fetch water from unhealthy sources, exposing them to health risks and hardship.
Commissioning the project, Governor Mutfwang assured residents that the project is only the first phase of broader interventions planned for the area, promising that the water scheme would be expanded to serve more parts of Tudun Wada while ongoing road construction would gather pace after the rainy season. He noted that access to safe water is fundamental to human dignity and sustainable development.
"Today is a day of great joy, the excitement I see in the faces of our women who have borne the brunt of water scarcity for decades. When your cries came to government, we felt compelled and duty bound to do something about it," the Governor said.
"This is just the beginning of good things to come... we are going to ensure that this pilot scheme is extended to other parts of Tudun Wada and communities in Jos North so that water can be abundant in this location," he added.
Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration's resolve to provide people centred approach to governance and its determination to deliver tangible dividends of democracy across the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti, described the commissioning as the fulfilment of a long awaited dream for the people, stressing that the project represents far more than physical infrastructure.
"This is not just another government project. It is an answer to the prayers of many families who have waited for years to have clean and reliable water close to their homes," he said.
The Commissioner recalled the painful realities he witnessed during visits to the community, where mothers sacrificed sleep in search of water while children spent valuable school hours carrying jerry cans instead of preparing for classes.
"What we are commissioning today is more than a water treatment plant. It is hope flowing into homes. It is dignity restored to our mothers... It means fewer hours spent searching for water and more time for school, farming, business and family," he stated.
He commended Governor Mutfwang for prioritising equitable access to potable water across Plateau State, irrespective of the size or location of communities, and urged residents to safeguard the facility to ensure its sustainability.
Stakeholders, women leaders and groups of the community were grateful for the commissioning of the Mado Water Treatment and Supply System saying, the Plateau State Government's resolve to expand access to clean and safe drinking water, has reduced water-borne diseases, improved public health, and stimulate socio economic development in underserved communities.
