GAMAI NATION PLEDGES SOLIDARITY AS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to equitable development, inclusive governance, and fair representation for every community across the state, assuring that no part of Plateau will be deliberately marginalised under his leadership.

Governor Mutfwang gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the Gamai Unity and Development Organisation (GUDO), led by its President, Dr. Albert Kelong Alkali, alongside the Long Gamai, His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martin Mudutrie Shaldas III, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

The Governor emphasised that his administration remains guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and inclusiveness, stressing that deliberate efforts are being made to foster unity and ensure balanced development across all parts of Plateau State.

Paying glowing tribute to the Gamai Nation, Governor Mutfwang described the people as industrious, hospitable, and patriotic, noting that their land has, over the years, provided opportunities for countless families and contributed immensely to the growth and development of Plateau State.

"I want to thank God for the immense contributions of the Gamai Nation in building the Plateau State we have today. I am a detribalised Plateau man, and I do not believe that any part of Plateau should be neglected under my leadership," the Governor stated.

Speaking on infrastructure development, Governor Mutfwang disclosed that road projects are currently ongoing across all 17 Local Government Areas of the state. He explained that nearly 70 per cent of the projects under execution were inherited from previous administrations, while several new projects have also been initiated by his government.

"It would be irresponsible to abandon projects on which public funds have already been expended," he said. "Our priority is to complete ongoing projects within the limits of available resources while gradually initiating new ones to meet the development needs of our people."

Responding to concerns over the persistent water shortage in Shendam, the Governor described the situation as "a nightmare" and expressed confidence that his administration would provide a lasting solution before the end of its tenure.

He also highlighted ongoing investments in the power sector, revealing that the state is expanding electricity transmission through the 132KV network while collaborating with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to strengthen electricity supply across Plateau.

"We hope that within the next two years, by the grace of God, Plateau State will become a net exporter of electricity," he said, adding that discussions were already underway to expand the Namu Solar Energy Project while implementing emergency water interventions in Namu and Qua'an Pan.

On healthcare delivery, Governor Mutfwang disclosed that efforts are ongoing to fully operationalise the hospital in the area, including the establishment of a police outpost to provide adequate security before the facility is commissioned.

The Governor further explained that the relocation of the Federal Polytechnic to the legacy project site in Shendam was a strategic policy decision aimed at securing the institution's long-term sustainability while providing immediate access to critical infrastructure.

"We deliberately ceded the legacy project in Shendam for the immediate occupation of the Polytechnic because we believe it is the best way to guarantee the institution's viability and future growth," he explained.

Addressing requests for additional legislative constituencies, Governor Mutfwang revealed that the state government had already constituted an internal committee to drive the process of creating additional state and federal constituencies for Plateau.

"We have already mapped out strategies for pursuing the creation of additional constituencies. While the process may not be concluded before the next electoral cycle, we are committed to pursuing it vigorously so that, by 2031, Plateau State will enjoy more equitable representation," he assured.

On concerns regarding political appointments in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area, the Governor reiterated that his administration has never adopted a policy of exclusion or marginalisation.

"We have never set out to marginalise any community. Appointments into the civil service are guided by competence, career progression, equity, and fairness—not political considerations," he emphasised.

Governor Mutfwang also appealed for greater unity among Plateau's political leaders, professionals, and stakeholders, lamenting that internal divisions have weakened the state's collective influence at the national level.

"We have not been able to maximise our influence in Abuja because we often work against one another. We must unite as Plateau citizens and speak with one voice in advancing the collective interests of our state," he urged.

Earlier, the President of the Gamai Unity and Development Organisation (GUDO), Dr. Albert Kelong Alkali, commended Governor Mutfwang for his commitment to peacebuilding, the completion of abandoned projects, and efforts at fostering unity and inclusive development across Plateau State.

He particularly lauded the Governor's intervention in facilitating the proposed reconstruction of the Maraban Jama'a–Mangu–Pankshin–Kanke–Langtang–Yelwa–Ibi Federal Road, describing it as a critical economic corridor that will significantly boost commerce and improve connectivity across Southern Plateau.

The delegation, however, appealed to the Governor to facilitate the construction of strategic roads within Gamai land, establish a university and tertiary healthcare institution in Shendam, complete the Mother and Child Hospital in Kabas, support the creation of additional legislative constituencies, ensure equitable political appointments in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area, and strengthen traditional institutions.

Speaking on behalf of the people, the Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council reaffirmed the unwavering support and loyalty of the Gamai Nation to Governor Mutfwang's administration.

"We are here to express our solidarity and reaffirm that the Gamai Nation stands firmly with Your Excellency. We appreciate the numerous road projects and rural development initiatives your administration has executed across Shendam Local Government Area," he declared.

The visit concluded with renewed assurances of mutual cooperation between the Plateau State Government and the Gamai Nation, as both parties pledged to continue working together to promote peace, unity, inclusive governance, and sustainable development across Plateau State.
