COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE MEETING OF FIRST-TERM GOVERNORS IN KEBBI STATE IN SUPPORT OF NATIONAL STABILITY, CONTINUITY OF REFORMS AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT UNDER PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFRKebbi State, NigeriaTuesday, 7 July 2026
1. We, the undersigned first term Governors, having met in Kebbi State, issue this communiqué in the spirit of patriotism, responsibility, accountability and national duty.
2. We acknowledge the sacrifices Nigerians have made in this period of economic adjustment. Families, workers, farmers, traders, transporters, young people, women and vulnerable citizens have all felt the weight of current realities. We do not dismiss these difficulties. Leadership requires truth, and the truth is that Nigeria is undergoing a necessary period of correction after years of accumulated fiscal, security, productivity and development challenges.
3. We are persuaded that the reforms being undertaken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, are necessary to stabilize the economy, restore public finance, attract investment, strengthen national productivity, expand infrastructure, deepen food security and secure a more sustainable future for the Nigerian people.
4. Our support for President Tinubu is not based on politics alone. It is based on the conviction that Nigeria requires courageous leadership, policy continuity, stronger federal-state collaboration and a development path that rewards production, enterprise, agriculture, innovation and hard work.
5. Accordingly, we declare our total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and for the continuity of the Renewed Hope agenda beyond 2027. We make this declaration as a commitment to national recovery, shared prosperity, democratic stability and the protection of the Nigerian federation.
6. We believe in national unity and therefore call on Nigerians across all regions, religions and communities to look beyond temporary discomfort and consider the larger national picture. The question is not whether the journey has been difficult; it has been difficult. The real question is whether Nigeria should abandon reform midway or stay the course, correct what needs correction, expand relief for the vulnerable, and allow the foundations being laid to produce lasting results.
7. We note the challenges of insecurity that have lasted over two decades. We commit ourselves individually and collectively to the preservation of lives and property of Nigerians, we wish to express deep concern over the continuing threats to the safety of citizens, especially incidents of kidnapping, school abductions, attacks on educational institutions, terrorism, banditry and criminality in parts of the country.
8. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the abduction of children, kidnapping of innocent citizens, attacks on schools, killing of vulnerable persons and all acts of terror and criminality that undermine education, economic life, public confidence and national peace. We commit to the pursuit of stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, State Governments, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, school authorities and local intelligence networks to secure schools, protect communities, rescue victims, prosecute perpetrators and restore confidence.
9. We also express concern over reported attacks, killings and hostility directed at Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa. While we respect the sovereignty of the Republic of South Africa and the brotherly relations between our two countries, we condemn all forms of xenophobia, mob violence, unlawful killings and abuse of foreign nationals anywhere in the world. We urge the appropriate authorities to investigate such incidents transparently, protect law-abiding Nigerians and other African residents, and ensure justice in accordance with law and diplomatic norms.
10. We appeal to Nigerians at home and abroad to remain calm, law-abiding and guided by official diplomatic channels. Nigeria and South Africa are important African nations, and their relationship must continue to be anchored on mutual respect, protection of citizens, justice, accountability and the shared destiny of the African continent.
11. As first term Governors seeking renewed mandates from our people, we recognize that our support for the President must be matched by performance in our states. We shall not merely ask Nigerians to support the President; we shall give Nigerians reasons to believe by working harder, delivering visible results and ensuring that federal reforms translate into local benefits.
12. We therefore commit ourselves to practical action in agriculture and food security, rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, security collaboration, energy access, investment promotion, revenue reform, job creation and transparent governance.
13. We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for taking difficult decisions in the national interest, for giving states greater space to participate in national development, and for sustaining engagement with Governors as partners in governance. We also urge the Federal Government to continue expanding interventions that directly reduce hardship, especially in food production, transportation, small businesses, rural livelihoods, energy, social protection and security.
14. We resolve that our reelection efforts shall be anchored on performance, not propaganda; service, not sentiment; unity, not division; and results, not noise. We shall go to our people , present our records, listen to their concerns, correct our shortcomings and seek their continued trust in the interest of stability and development.
15. We believe that the task before Nigeria is bigger than one election. It is about the future of our country. It is about protecting democracy, securing our communities, feeding our people, creating jobs for our youth and ensuring that the sacrifices of today become the prosperity of tomorrow.
16. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
