NANS VICE PRESIDENT TOURS NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS AS ACTING PROVOST OF COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY, ZAWAN, ATANGS ISHAKU IS INDUCTED INTO NANS HALL OF FAME
The Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Body, Activist Nanchang Peter Temlong, paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Provost of the College of Health Technology, Zawan, Mr. Ishaku Atangs, in his office and inducted him into the NANS Hall of Fame as a Five-Star Aluta General.
The visit formed part of the NANS Vice President's familiarisation tour of tertiary institutions across Plateau State and other parts of the country.
Leading the delegation of Nigerian students, Comrade Colins Ozele Sunday, Chairman of NANS Stakeholders in Plateau State, appreciated the management of the College of Health Technology, Zawan, for the warm reception accorded to the team and commended the cordial relationship existing between the institution's management and its students.
Also speaking, the Head of Government in the Office of the Vice President of NANS, Comrade Richard Omotosho, briefly highlighted the structure of NANS across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, noting that the arrangement has enhanced effective administration and representation of Nigerian students nationwide.
During the familiarisation tour, the NANS Vice President, Activist Nanchang Peter Temlong, encouraged students to prioritise their academic pursuits above leisure activities. Using his personal experience as an example, he challenged the students to remain focused and determined in their studies.
According to him, "Unionism today is not about sitting within the four corners of your comfort zone and expecting miracles to happen. Nothing worthwhile comes on a platter of gold."
The students' leader further pledged to continue representing Nigerian students by ensuring that their interests are adequately protected while prioritising their welfare. He commended the Acting Provost, Mr. Ishaku Atangs, for the high academic standards maintained by the institution and appealed to the management to consider reviewing the cases of students withdrawn due to academic deficiencies, with the possibility of allowing them to repeat a semester or academic session where appropriate.
The umbrella body of Nigerian students also applauded the leadership style of Mr. Ishaku Atangs, who, since assuming office as Acting Provost, has made deliberate efforts to promote academic excellence and facilitate the training of competent health professionals capable of competing favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
In his response, the Acting Provost, Mr. Ishaku Atangs, expressed delight over the familiarisation visit by the NANS Vice President and his entourage. He also expressed gratitude for his induction into the NANS Hall of Fame as a Five-Star Aluta General.
In his words, "We must graduate health professionals who will enter the healthcare system to heal and not to kill. We must continue to sanitise the system and ensure that things work positively in Plateau State, in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for good governance."
Mr. Atangs further took time to explain why students should appreciate Governor Caleb Mutfwang for subsidising education in a reputable and accredited health institution such as the College of Health Technology, Zawan, compared to what obtains in many similar institutions across the country, he also commended Governor Mutfwang for providing scholarship for Plateau students recently to study abroad.
The Acting Provost, Mr. Atangs Ishaku commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a Federal Government initiative designed to provide interest-free student loans to eligible students in tertiary institutions and approved vocational and skills-acquisition programmes, thereby improving access to quality education.
Representatives of the Students' Union Government (SUG) as appointed at the event included Comrade Ezekiel Merot Ishaku - Secretary-General, and Comrade Mercy Solomon - SUG chairman.
Also in attendance were the Acting Registrar of the great institution- Mr. Ishaya Malat Yongchi; Acting Director of Works - Mr. Yunana Pam Tok; Acting Dean of Health Information Management - Mr. Panshak Dawal; and Acting Dean of Student Affairs - Mr. Pam Gyang Moses.
Following a brief induction ceremony for the Acting Provost, the NANS Vice President and his entourage embarked on a procession-like tour of the institution's facilities, including hostels and lecture halls, alongside representatives of the appointed Students' Union Government, NANS appointees, and officials of NAPSS.
