GOVERNOR MUTFWANG VISITS ATTACKED KAWEL COMMUNITY, ORDERS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF PERPETRATORS, REAFFIRMS GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING LIVES

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Wednesday paid a solemn visit to Kawel Community in Mushere Chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area following the gruesome attack of Sunday, June 21, 2026, which claimed the lives of 23 innocent citizens and left one other injured.

Governor Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, was accompanied by top government officials, who expressed profound grief over the tragic incident and conveyed the Government and people of Plateau State's condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Mushere nation.

The Governor described the attack as barbaric, senseless, and a direct affront to the sanctity of human life and the peace-loving values of Plateau State.

Addressing mourners gathered in Kawel, many dressed in black in a poignant expression of grief, Governor Mutfwang called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act and ensure that justice is served.

"Please let there be arrests, those who carried out this wicked act must be brought to justice, Plateau people deserve to live in peace and security, and we will not relent until those responsible are identified and made to face the full weight of the law.

“These killings are not just wicked but reprehensible and unacceptable, but I want to assure victims that my administration would continue to pursue every lawful means to secure our communities, we stand firmly with you during this painful period and our commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state remains unwavering.

"No community in Plateau State should live under fear or be subjected to repeated acts of violence, our people deserve peace, justice, and the freedom to pursue their legitimate means of livelihood,” he said. 

Governor Mutfwang urged farmers to continue their agricultural activities but advised them to remain vigilant and maintain close communication with security agencies and community leaders and emphasised the importance of promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities to prevent further attacks.

Earlier, the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, recounted the devastating impact of the invasion, revealing that among those killed were farmers, two pregnant women, and healthcare workers at a Primary Healthcare Centre.

Chairman of the Mushere Community Development Association (MCDA), Amb. Duwam Bosco, called for a review of the current security arrangement in the area to avert further bloodshed. 

Representing the women of Mushere, Mrs. Charity Ayuba appealed for unity among the people and urged residents to remain steadfast in confronting those threatening the peace of their land.

Speaking on behalf of victims' families, Mr. Jethro Dukut raised concerns over certain developments preceding the attack and appealed for a thorough investigation to mitigate a repeat of the unfortunate incident.
