GOVERNOR MUTFWANG RECEIVES NYSC DIRECTOR-GENERAL, ASSURES CORPS MEMBERS OF PEACEFUL AND ENABLING ENVIRONMENT IN PLATEAU

Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing a peaceful, secure, and conducive environment for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the State, to enable them contribute meaningfully to national development and the promotion of national unity.

Governor Mutfwang gave the assurance on Monday when he received the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye, on a courtesy visit at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

The Governor reiterated the strategic importance of the NYSC Scheme in fostering national integration, strengthening social cohesion, and promoting mutual understanding among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.

He noted that the Plateau State Government has continued to create an enabling environment for corps members, particularly graduates in professional fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Architecture, Law, and other disciplines, to gain practical experience and build a solid foundation for their future careers.

Governor Mutfwang described the NYSC as one of Nigeria's most enduring platforms for national integration and unity.

"I am a firm believer in the NYSC Scheme as a noble instrument of national integration. It is unfortunate that security challenges in some parts of the country have limited access and participation in certain areas. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that the Scheme is worth sustaining because of its immense contributions to national growth, unity, and cohesion.

"Despite the limited resources available to the Scheme, I commend the leadership of the NYSC for ensuring its continued operation and for providing young Nigerians with a valuable platform for integration, socialization, and service to the nation," the Governor stated.

He further acknowledged the critical role corps members continue to play in addressing manpower shortages across key sectors of the economy, particularly in healthcare and education.

Drawing from his experience as a former Local Government Chairman, Governor Mutfwang recalled recruiting corps medical doctors and other professionals who provided essential services across 84 Primary Healthcare Centres within the local government area, significantly improving healthcare delivery and access for rural communities.

The Governor also expressed appreciation for the historic contributions of elder statesman and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, a distinguished son of Plateau State and founder of the NYSC Scheme.

He reaffirmed his administration's determination to complete the permanent orientation camp in Mangu Local Government Area to further strengthen the Scheme's operations in the State.

Earlier, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Mutfwang and the Plateau State Government for the warm reception and sustained support extended to the Scheme.

He commended the Governor's commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and assured the State of the NYSC's continued partnership in promoting national unity, peace, and development.

Brigadier General Oluseye noted that Plateau State holds a special place in his personal and professional journey, having begun his military career in the State. He described Plateau as a second home and pledged to continue working diligently, despite resource constraints, to improve the welfare of corps members and enhance the effectiveness of the Scheme nationwide.

The Director-General emphasized that the core values of the NYSC—national integration, peaceful coexistence, unity, and service—would remain the guiding principles of his leadership as he discharges his responsibilities.
