GOVERNOR MUTFWANG, DEPUTY OFFER THANKSGIVING TO MARK THREE YEARS IN OFFICE, EXPRESS PROFOUND GRATITUDE TO GOD AND PLATEAU PEOPLE FOR STEADFAST SUPPORT

...Says he will never forget the sacrifices of women and children who celebrated the reaffirmation of his mandate

It was a moment of profound praise, thanksgiving, and reflection as the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, joined by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, marked three years in office with deep gratitude to Almighty God for His faithfulness, guidance, protection, and sustaining grace.

The thanksgiving service, held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the COCIN Headquarters Church, adjacent to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Jos, attracted a distinguished congregation, including former governors, serving and former senators, ministers, political leaders, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and supporters from across the state.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Mutfwang acknowledged God's divine favour, intervention, and preservation throughout his leadership journey, particularly during the 2023 electoral process, the legal battles that almost nullified his victory, and the numerous security challenges confronting Plateau State.

 “Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” he declared, noting that numerous political, and security challenges had tested his resolve but ultimately strengthened his commitment to service.

The Governor expressed profound gratitude to God for His unwavering support and mercy, noting that despite the daunting challenges, he remained steadfast in faith and trust in the Almighty, whose grace enabled him to overcome every obstacle and emerge victorious.

Reflecting on the administration's achievements over the past three years, Governor Mutfwang highlighted significant progress across key sectors of the state's economy and development agenda. He disclosed that more than N16 billion had been expended on the payment of pensions and gratuities, while over N4 billion had been provided as medical assistance to vulnerable and indigent citizens.

 He said, “When I saw women dancing after water returned to communities that had gone nearly twenty years without public water supply, I shed tears. These are the images that push me on,” he said.

He further stated that substantial investments had been made in transportation, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, tourism, water, and peacebuilding initiatives aimed at fostering unity, stability, and prosperity across Plateau State.

According to him, the Plateau Specialist Hospital now boasts one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country, with standards that have received recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO). He also commended the effectiveness of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the State Ambulance Service in improving healthcare delivery across the state.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership and sustainable development, emphasizing that the successes recorded by his administration were made possible through God's grace, the resilience of Plateau citizens, and the collective efforts of stakeholders committed to building a greater Plateau.

As the administration enters its fourth year, he called on citizens to remain united, prayerful, and committed to the shared vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and thriving Plateau State. He renewed his commitment to defending the heritage of Plateau State, noting that he will always give the people a voice and work to protect citizens from all form of invasion.

The Governor expressed deep appreciation to the people for their unwavering support and confidence in his administration. He particularly paid tribute to the sacrifices made by women, youths, and children during the period leading to the Supreme Court's reaffirmation of his mandate, stating that their demonstrations of faith, hope, and solidarity would remain unforgettable.

Speaking on behalf of former governors of the state, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.) commended Governor Mutfwang for his dedication, sincerity of purpose, and determination to transform Plateau State across all sectors. He urged citizens to continue praying for and supporting the Governor, stressing that good governance requires patience, sacrifice, and collective commitment.

"We have seen the remarkable efforts of the Governor, and this is because he genuinely has the interests of the people at heart. We must continue to pray for him, rally around him, and unite ourselves for the peace, protection, and prosperity of Plateau State," he said.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, welcomed worshippers, political stakeholders, and guests to the thanksgiving service and expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout the administration's three-year journey. She thanked the people of Plateau State for entrusting them with the responsibility of restoring confidence in governance, healing divisions, and laying a solid foundation for a peaceful and prosperous state.

According to her, significant investments have been made in infrastructure development, including the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads that had suffered decades of neglect, thereby improving connectivity, facilitating transportation, and stimulating economic activities across both urban and rural communities. She noted that deliberate interventions in healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment are gradually transforming lives and creating new opportunities for the people of the state.

Also speaking, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, His Royal Highness Da Isaac Wakili, expressed appreciation to Governor Mutfwang for his commitment to peace, unity, and development.

He observed that the state has witnessed remarkable improvements in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, transportation, and agricultural development, while reaffirming the support of the traditional institution for the administration. The royal father cautioned politicians against making divisive and inflammatory statements capable of undermining the collective interest of the state and urged citizens to support the Governor in sustaining the transformation currently being experienced across Plateau.

Delivering the sermon, the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, took his text from Psalm 3:1-8 and spoke on the theme, "Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity." He encouraged believers to cultivate a lifestyle of gratitude, noting that thanksgiving attracts God's blessings and strengthens faith in difficult times.

Rev. Gomwalk commended Governor Mutfwang for returning to God in thanksgiving and observed that the administration has distinguished itself through prayer, resilience, and a renewed commitment to transforming Plateau State. He further noted that the administration has consistently pursued peace and unity, calling on citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity, to support government efforts in combating insecurity, insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.

"Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. We must work together in unity to rewrite our story. What unites us must always be greater than what divides us. It is time to focus on the bigger picture and the future of our state," he stated.

In his goodwill message, the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, thanked God for His faithfulness and described thanksgiving as a powerful spiritual practice that redirects believers' focus to God's abundant blessings. According to him, thanksgiving fosters humility, promotes peace, and strengthens the relationship between individuals and God.

Similarly, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, represented by the Vice President, Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, described Governor Mutfwang as a shining example of a committed Christian leader whose passion for the welfare and development of Plateau State remains evident in his leadership style and service to the people.

The thanksgiving service featured special intercessory prayers for sustained peace, unity, and improved security in Plateau State. Clergy and worshippers also offered prayers for Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, asking God to grant him greater wisdom, good health, strength, and divine protection to successfully continue the task of delivering purposeful leadership and transforming Plateau State.
