ECWA Elects New Leaders, Approves DCC Expansion, Rebrands TV Station at 73rd GCC
The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has elected new leaders, approved the creation of additional District Church Councils, and rebranded its television station as part of major resolutions from its 73rd General Church Council meeting held April 21–24, 2026, in Jos.
The four-day meeting, led by ECWA President Rev. Dr. Ayuba Job Bagat Mallam, brought together delegates from 96 DCCs across Nigeria and the diaspora. The Council issued a communiqué at the close of proceedings.
Leadership Elections;
Rev. Chidi Joseph Madubuko was elected ECWA Vice President. Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe was returned unopposed for a second term as General Secretary, while Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Babatunde Omidiji was elected Trustee for Zone 9.
Church Expansion and Projects;
Council approved the creation of three new DCCs to strengthen grassroots governance: Chonge-Pero DCC from Shongom DCC, Tafawa Balewa DCC from Dass DCC, and Kontagora DCC from Minna DCC, bringing the total number of DCCs to 100.
The Council also commended ECWA Executives for initiating development on acquired land at Garam, Abuja, and urged all DCCs to mobilize members and disseminate information on the project. The newly completed Trustees’ Lodge was dedicated on April 22, 2026.
Reforms and Institutions;
ECWA TV was officially rebranded to _Bingham Television_ to broaden media outreach and evangelism. Council also approved the centralization of the salary scheme to promote equity, accountability, and improved welfare for church workers.
Bingham University was commended for two decades of growth in enrollment, infrastructure, academic excellence, and research as the first private university in Northern Nigeria.
The Council reviewed the state of ECWA in Kano and called for renewed commitment to mission, strategic engagement at all levels, and strengthened unity among members and leaders. It encouraged reconciliation, mutual respect, and collaborative partnership.
Technology and National Issues;
The ICT Unit was appreciated for developing applications to spread the gospel and expand the denomination’s reach.
On national matters, Council expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for appointing ECWA members into the Federal Cabinet as Ministers. It also voiced deep concern over insecurity and socio-economic challenges, calling for justice, peace, and responsible leadership.
Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the Council urged all eligible ECWA members to register and actively participate in the electoral process, recognizing the critical role of credible leadership in shaping the nation’s future.
The Council gave thanks to God for His grace throughout the proceedings and urged members to remain united, prayerful, and steadfast in faith.
