NBTE EHCON Hold Curriculum Workshop to Strengthen Environmental Health Programmes

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), has convened a five-day National Curriculum Final Critique Workshop for Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Environmental Health–related fields.
The workshop, which commenced on Monday at the NBTE Centre of Excellence in Kaduna, is focused on reviewing and refining curricula for HND programmes in Food Safety and Hygiene, Environmental Health Monitoring and Surveillance, and School Health.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, the Director of Nursing and Health Technology Department, Pharm. Salihu Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening technical education through continuous curriculum development and strategic partnerships. He emphasized the importance of producing industry-driven curricula that respond to contemporary public health challenges.
In his welcome address, the Director of Curriculum Development Department, Dr. O.O. Bello, described the workshop as a critical stage in the curriculum development process, which began in 2024 and is expected to be concluded within the next five weeks. He noted that the exercise provides an opportunity for stakeholders to review draft curricula, identify gaps, and ensure alignment with global best practices and national development priorities.
Also speaking, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of EHCON, Dr. Yakubu Baba Mohammed, who was represented by Dr. Ahmad Mairiga Yandah, commended the collaboration between both institutions. He highlighted the importance of the workshop in producing competent environmental health professionals equipped to tackle emerging challenges such as food safety, environmental hazards, and school health concerns.
