GOVERNOR MUTFWANG RECEIVES SALLAH HOMAGE FROM JNI, URGES UNITY AND PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE IN PLATEAU AND BEYOND
As the Muslim Ummah marks the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and celebrates Eid-el-Fitr across the country, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Monday, March 23, 2026, received a Sallah homage from the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
The visit provided an opportunity for both the government and the Muslim community to reaffirm their shared commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in Plateau State.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of sustaining the moral and spiritual lessons of Ramadan, noting that the fasting period instills values essential for societal growth. He expressed hope that these lessons would endure, shaping character and strengthening citizens to become more God-fearing, compassionate, and committed to the unity and progress of the state.
The Governor highlighted the significance of interfaith engagement, describing the shared Iftar experience as a symbol of friendship, trust, and mutual belonging. He noted that one of the greatest challenges facing humanity is the tendency to fear one another from a distance, stressing that genuine interaction fosters understanding and peaceful coexistence.
Reflecting on Plateau State’s history, Governor Mutfwang acknowledged past tensions but expressed optimism over the progress made in bridging divides. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., he stated, “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools,” adding that the people of Plateau have chosen the path of peace, unity, and collective progress.
He further cautioned against violence and reprisals, stressing that no meaningful gains can come from conflict or the loss of human life. According to him, “Any gain derived from violence cannot be justified,” urging citizens to exercise restraint, noting that while humans may seek revenge, only God judges perfectly.
Governor Mutfwang commended Muslim leaders for their proactive role in maintaining peace during periods of tension, including recent security concerns and public protests. He noted that their timely interventions helped prevent escalation and strengthened stability across communities, particularly in areas such as Dorowa.
He expressed confidence that Plateau State can serve as a model for interfaith harmony and pluralistic coexistence in Nigeria.
The Governor also disclosed that over 1,100 intending pilgrims from the state are expected to participate in the 2026 Hajj exercise, with government providing necessary support to enable them fulfill their religious obligations while contributing to peace and development.
Earlier, in his address, the Emir of Wase and Chairman of JNI in Plateau State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sambo, commended Governor Mutfwang for his inclusive style of governance and efforts toward promoting peace and security across the state. He noted that Ramadan reinforces values of patience, sacrifice, and compassion, which are vital for building a progressive society.
He appreciated the state government’s intervention through Ramadan food palliatives, which supported many less privileged families during the fasting period. He also acknowledged ongoing infrastructural development, particularly road projects, as well as the provision of vehicles to first-class traditional rulers, describing them as clear demonstrations of the administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends.
While reaffirming the loyalty and support of the Muslim Ummah to the government, the JNI leadership appealed for additional logistical support, including the provision of a bus to enhance its operations at both state and local government levels.
The event climaxed with the exchange of kolanuts, symbolizing unity, friendship, and goodwill.
