PLATEAU STATE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CAUCUS PAYS SOLIDARITY VISIT TO GOVERNOR MUTFWANG OVER ZURAK MINERS’ DEATHS, RATATIS ATTACKS, AND MURDER OF TRADERS

In a profound demonstration of solidarity and shared grief, the Plateau State National Assembly Caucus has paid a sympathy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, following the tragic death of young miners in Zurak community of Wase Local Government Area.

The caucus also condoled with the Government and people of Plateau State over the recent violent attack on Ratatis community in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, which escalated into the killing of innocent traders and villagers.

Leader of the caucus and Member representing Shendam/Quan’pan/Mikang Federal Constituency, Hon. John Dafa’an, condemned the unfortunate incidents and expressed the caucus’ firm resolve to work closely with the Plateau State Government to find lasting solutions to the recurring security challenges.

Addressing the Zurak mining tragedy in Wase LGA, Hon. Dafa’an conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Government, and the Governor of Plateau State. He also expressed strong support for the investigative panel established by the Federal Government to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths and ensure accountability where necessary.

The caucus leader further condemned in strong terms the attacks in Barkin-Ladi LGA that led to the loss of innocent lives and the obstruction of roads, which reportedly contributed to the tragic killings. He urged residents to refrain from actions capable of inflaming tensions or tarnishing the image of Plateau State, while calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

Hon. Dafa’an reassured Governor Mutfwang of the caucus’ strong commitment to supporting all legislative and executive measures aimed at ending the sporadic killings in rural communities. He appealed to religious and traditional leaders to continue partnering with government and security agencies to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and restore Plateau’s cherished identity as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”

In his response, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the caucus for the thoughtful visit, describing it as a morale booster at a critical time. He assured them that government had taken decisive and proactive steps to address the unfolding security concerns.

The Governor expressed deep sorrow over the Zurak incident and disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been fully briefed, with appropriate actions already initiated to prevent a recurrence.

While updating the caucus on ongoing efforts to sustain the relative peace enjoyed across the state in recent times, Governor Mutfwang condemned the violent incidents that occurred on January 1, 2026, in Buhum of Vwang community, as well as subsequent attacks in Kuru, Gyel, Riyom, Kanam, and most recently, Ratatis in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin-Ladi LGA, which claimed several innocent lives.

He reiterated that no act of violence would deter his administration’s commitment to purposeful and inclusive leadership anchored on peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence among all ethnic and religious groups in the state. He called for strengthened collaboration between federal and state actors to decisively end the recurring attacks.

Governor Mutfwang also commended the relentless efforts of traditional, religious, and community leaders in stabilizing affected areas and urged them to sustain their advocacy for peace and reconciliation.

“Under no circumstances should anyone lose his or her life while traveling on the highway,” the Governor stressed.

He extended heartfelt sympathies to families of victims across the state and prayed for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment. The Governor further called on all sons and daughters of Plateau State to rise above divisive tendencies, unite under the banner of love and collective responsibility, and confront criminality in all its forms for the peace, security, and prosperity of the state.
