COMMENDATION TO PLATEAU UNITED FC UNDER HABILA HOSEA MUTLA AS GENERAL MANAGER

by Jimmy Pam Jerry PJ²

The Nigeria Premier Professional Football League (NPFL) is adjudged by football pundits as one of the best and toughest league around the globe. Yes! Talking about soccer/football, playing, officiating, sponsorship or administratively in Nigeria is no child's play. And that is why we must give it to the General manager of Plateau united football club of Jos, Mr. Habila Hosea Mutla and his management team.

For more clarity, Habila Hosea Mutla is not a novice in football administration nor a "Junny Just Come" in Plateau United, this is because he was there before as Assistant General Manager. No wonder, his experience playedout in the just concluded 2024/2025 NPFL season where Plateau united FC narrowly missed the Continental ticket, finished 7th on the log even with points deduction.

Habila Mutla has proven his worth as an experienced football administrator who knows what it takes to run a professional football club like what is obtainable in Europe and other developed footballing countries.
At the moment, Plateau united FC has a well structured football setting, typical of an organized football club, with a female and youth side, appointing quality and qualified backroom staff such as the team's technical department headed by coach Mbwas, team psychiatrist, team physiotherapist, medical team, team psychologist, match/game reader, ex players of the team forming a team of trainer's from the National Institute of Sports.

This year, the Plateau united Youth team, parading the youngest squad in Nigeria was able to give the state something to smile home with at the end of the 2024/2025 season by winning the NYouth League Cup, now waiting for the playoffs.
While the female team won the State Women Federation Cup including other competitions organized locally, in a bid to build a formidable female team.

In the 2024/25 NPFL season, Plateau united FC, popularly known as the peace boys had maintained an unbeaten run for seven tough matches. From week 28 - 35, giving a good account of themselves on the pitch which also boosted their morale to go up the league table.

Mr. Hosea Mutla as a result oriented football administrator has prioritized players and officials welfare for maximum output professionally. Under his watch, Plateau united FC media team is one of the best in the country with prompt, reliable and authentic up-to-date team's gist and information dissemination.

The team's support base has continued to increase with a well structured supporters club, always chanting - "Up! United!! Having a good working relationship with the management.
As a critical stakeholder in the round leather game in Nigeria, I must commend the cordial relationship existing between the team, football stakeholders all over Nigeria, the sports ministry under Hon. Musa Ashoms and the custodians of football on the Plateau - The Plateau Football Association (PFA), ably chaired by Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, always working round the clock to ensure football moves to the next level across the state.

This is the best of time to give more support and encourage Mr. Habila Hosea Mutla to do more even in the face of criticism which is usual in the game of football. Besides, long serving football administrators attract more positive impacts to a team, giving them an edge domestically up to CAF and FIFA. To mention a few; Chief Felix Agu Ayansi of Enyimba was there for decades till he got to CAF and later brought Kanu Nwankwo onboard, Sir Paul Bassey of Akwa united had been there too, helping him to get to CAF as a committee member, Barr. Chris Green has been heading Rivers United for years, giving him an opportunity to be in CAF.

Just as the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang and all football fans across the 17 LGA's of Plateau expect results from the team, and with the consistency seen in the team's performance by finishing 7th in the just concluded NPFL season, the team can only get better next season with Habila Hosea Mutla incharge, and with the support of Plateau people irrespective of whatever affiliation because football is a common unifiar.
