GOVERNOR MUTFWANG INAUGURATES FACT-FINDING COMMITTEE TO IDENTIFY COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY ATTACKS AND RECOMMEND MEASURES TO ALLEVIATE THEIR PLIGHT

In a decisive move to address the persistent violent attacks that have claimed numerous lives across rural communities in Plateau State, Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has inaugurated a High-Powered Fact-Finding Committee on the Incessant Attacks on Communities in the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, Governor Mutfwang stated that the committee is saddled with the responsibility of identifying affected communities, assessing the scale of destruction, and determining the number of casualties.

The committee is also mandated to establish the identities of perpetrators, their motives and possible sponsors, identify likely routes used by the assailants, and recommend effective measures to curtail further attacks. In addition, it is expected to propose appropriate interventions and support for victims and affected communities.

Governor Mutfwang said, “We deemed it necessary to establish this high-powered fact-finding committee to critically examine the incessant attacks on Plateau communities. Part of their assignment is to carry out an in-depth assessment of the recurring security breaches, understand their root causes, and propose actionable recommendations to restore peace, justice, and stability in the affected areas.

“I have always maintained that Plateau State continues to make headlines for the wrong reasons. This trend must change. Plateau is a state with immense potential to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s food security. We are peace-loving and accommodating people. Jos is a microcosm of Nigeria — it hosts diverse ethnic nationalities and even foreign nationals. We want our identity to reflect our hospitality and resilience.”

The Governor pledged the full support of his administration to the committee, assuring them of a free and enabling environment to carry out their mandate effectively.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Maj. Gen. Nicholas Rogas (Rtd), assured the government and people of Plateau State of the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.

“We assure the Governor and the people of Plateau State that we will carry out this task with utmost sincerity and professionalism. Our aim is to produce a comprehensive report that will serve the collective interest of our dear state. May God grant us the wisdom and strength to help build a Plateau where peace and justice prevail,bwhere no one is oppressed or unjustly dispossessed,” he said.
